좋은 대학원생이란?
대학원은 단순히 지식을 배우는 공간이 아니라, 새로운 질문을 만들고 스스로 답을 찾아가는 연구의 출발점입니다. 따라서 좋은 대학원생은 단지 성적이 우수한 학생이 아니라, 연구에 필요한 태도와 성장 가능성을 갖춘 학생이라고 할 수 있습니다.
우리 연구실은 다음과 같은 자질을 중요하게 생각합니다.
첫째, 성실함과 꾸준함입니다.
연구는 짧은 시간 안에 완성되는 일이 아니라, 오랜 시간의 노력과 반복을 통해 이루어집니다. 눈에 띄는 재능보다도 맡은 일을 책임감 있게 수행하고 꾸준히 나아가는 태도가 무엇보다 중요합니다.
둘째, 배우려는 자세입니다.
대학원에 입학할 때부터 모든 것을 잘할 필요는 없습니다. 중요한 것은 자신의 부족한 점을 인정하고, 새로운 지식과 방법을 열린 마음으로 배우려는 자세입니다. 이러한 태도는 연구자로 성장하는 가장 중요한 출발점이 됩니다.
셋째, 자기주도성입니다.
대학원 연구는 누군가가 시키는 일을 수행하는 과정이 아니라, 스스로 문제를 발견하고 해결해 나가는 과정입니다. 주어진 과제를 넘어서 스스로 공부하고 고민하며 연구를 발전시키려는 자세가 필요합니다.
넷째, 소통과 협업 능력입니다.
연구는 혼자만의 노력이 아니라 지도교수, 선배, 동료 연구자들과의 협력을 통해 발전합니다. 자신의 생각을 명확히 전달하고, 어려움이 있을 때 적극적으로 논의할 수 있는 소통 능력은 매우 중요한 자질입니다.
다섯째, 실패를 견디는 힘과 회복탄력성입니다.
연구 과정에서는 예상과 다른 결과, 반복되는 수정, 실패와 좌절을 경험하는 일이 많습니다. 중요한 것은 실패 자체가 아니라, 그 경험을 통해 배우고 다시 도전할 수 있는 힘입니다.
여섯째, 책임감과 연구윤리입니다.
정직하게 데이터를 다루고, 약속을 지키며, 함께 연구하는 사람들과 신뢰를 쌓는 태도는 연구자의 기본입니다. 이는 연구 성과만큼이나 중요한 가치입니다.
우리 연구실은 처음부터 완벽한 학생보다, 성실하게 배우고, 스스로 성장하며, 끝까지 도전할 수 있는 학생과 함께하고자 합니다. 연구에 대한 열정과 진지한 태도를 가진 학생이라면, 우리 연구실에서 충분히 훌륭한 연구자로 성장할 수 있습니다.

Who is a good student?
Who is a good student?
Graduate school is not simply a place to acquire knowledge; it is the starting point of research, where students learn to ask new questions and seek their own answers. For this reason, an excellent graduate student is not defined only by strong academic performance, but also by the attitude, character, and potential needed to grow as a researcher.
Our laboratory values the following qualities in prospective graduate students.
First, sincerity and consistency.
Research is not completed in a short period of time. It requires continuous effort, patience, and persistence. More than exceptional talent, we value students who approach their work with responsibility and remain committed over time.
Second, a willingness to learn.
No student is expected to know everything at the beginning of graduate school. What matters most is the ability to recognize one’s limitations and the willingness to learn new knowledge, methods, and perspectives with an open mind. This attitude is one of the most important foundations for becoming a strong researcher.
Third, self-motivation and initiative.
Graduate research is not simply about completing assigned tasks. It is a process of identifying problems, exploring ideas, and developing solutions independently. We highly value students who take ownership of their learning and actively strive to advance their research.
Fourth, communication and collaboration skills.
Research does not progress in isolation. It develops through discussion and collaboration with advisors, senior students, and colleagues. The ability to communicate ideas clearly, ask questions, and share difficulties openly is essential for both individual growth and a healthy research environment.
Fifth, resilience in the face of challenges.
The research process often involves unexpected results, repeated revisions, and failure. What matters is not the absence of setbacks, but the ability to learn from them, adapt, and move forward with renewed effort.
Sixth, responsibility and research integrity.
Honesty in handling data, respect for commitments, and a responsible attitude toward collaborative work are fundamental qualities of a researcher. Trustworthiness is just as important as technical ability or academic achievement.
Our laboratory is not simply looking for students who are already perfect. Rather, we seek students who are willing to learn sincerely, grow steadily, and continue challenging themselves with dedication. Students who possess genuine curiosity, responsibility, and passion for research will find meaningful opportunities to develop into outstanding researchers in our laboratory.
